Superbad . . . and, yes, the name says it all!
Three geeky losers in high school make for quite a team. To impress the girls, one of them gets a fake ID so they can buy alcohol. That’s their big plan, buy tons of alcohol and take all of it to a party to impress the girls. Of course that’s not going to happen according to plan. They end up on the run from the cops, at a different party where they might be killed and completely drunk. As far as impressing the girls goes, hardly. In fact nothing is impressive about this movie unless you find very crude humor and highly dysfunctional teens funny.
If you don’t mind a huge dose of crude and offensive, the first half hour of Superbad may provide some hearty laughs. The premise is endearing, in it’s own way, and there are a few examples of clever jokes and sharp dialogue. But, after the first half hour, it starts to get old . . . and painfully redundant. Its offensiveness starts to wear on you, and it seems as though the same punch lines are revisited time and time again. When the final credits FINALLY roll, you’re too numb and annoyed to care how funny it was in the beginning. All you can think about is how long it was, and how funny it could have been. |
